RECOMMENDED PARK BOARD ACTION:                     

                     Approval of the Recommendation.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The 2017 Master Plan identified Cottonwood Park as one that was in need of redevelopment and/or upgrades. 

 

                     It currently has a baseball field, playground equipment, pavilion, open space and small parking lot.  The park is outdated and in need of refurbishment. 

 

                     During the master planning process, which consisted of a public input meeting, online survey, and planning boards placed throughout our recreation centers, a master plan was developed that provides the park with updated amenities and infrastructure, which includes:

 

o                     Water fountain/splash pad feature

o                     Walking paths

o                     Pavilion

o                     Basketball court

o                     Parking

o                     New playground equipment

o                     Landscaping

 

                     Kimley-Horn recently completed the master plan update for this park, which is attached.  Based upon their master plan design and quality of work, they were requested to provide design and construction administration services for the completion of the project.

 

                     This agenda item will authorize a professional services contract with Kimley-Horn & Associates to provide landscape architectural and engineering services related to the re-design and construction of Cottonwood Park in a contract amount of $172,550 and not to exceed $181,550.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Kimley-Horn was selected from a list of pre-qualified landscape architectural firms that Council approved on February 14, 2016.

 

                     Cottonwood Park has a long history.  It originally held a community swimming pool in the mid 1960’s, and was also the site for the first Parks and Recreation administration offices as well as a Samaritan Inn.  It was developed into a neighborhood park in 2000.   

 

                     This park is located at 212 McMakin Street, which is on the east side of McDonald Street and just north of Industrial Boulevard.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     The Cottonwood Park Project (PK1737) is a FY17-18 Capital Improvements Program funded by Parkland Dedication Monies and MCDC funds in an amount of $2,150,000.

 

                     The Resolution will authorize a professional services contract for landscape architectural and engineering services, with Kimley-Horn & Associates in an amount of $172,550.
