ITEM SUMMARY:
* The professional services contract with Ai Qui Hopen, Sculptor, in the amount of $20,000 is attached.

* If approved by the Arts Commission, the recommendation and contract for Unity Arch Sculpture for Mitchell Park will go to City Council on February 5, 2018.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* Proposals were received from forty-three (43) Artists. The Selection Panel chose three (3) artists to develop a Design Concept for the Mitchell Park Sculpture. Each artist was paid $500 ($1,500 total) to develop a design concept

* The three (3) sculpture models were displayed at MPAC during the Cultural Arts District designation celebration on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Residents commented on their favorite sculpture over a seven (7) day period.

* Resident comments favored the Unity Arch piece.


FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* The total cost of the sculpture, including design concepts is $41,500. $500 has already been paid to each of the three finalists for design concepts.

* Ai Qui Hopen, Sculptor, will be paid an amount, not to exceed $40,000 to fabricate and install the Unity Arch sculpture.

* Per the Public Art Master Plan approved by City Council, at least 50% of funds for public art projects will come from sources other than the City. The total remaining cost of the project is $40,000. $20,000 will be paid from the Public Art Fund (058-and the $20,000 match will be provided by DFA, LTD (Don Day and children Dana, Craig and Lisa Day)

* After payment of this project, there will be $41,695.73 remaining in the Public Art Fund.
