ITEM SUMMARY:

The McKinney Community Development Corporation will conduct a public hearing on the project grant application submitted by Habitat for Humanity of Collin County in the amount of $80,000 to fund critical home repair for low income families in McKinney.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

MCDC has allocated $1,364,926 to fund community projects eligible for consideration under sections 501 to 505 of the Texas Local Government Code in FY 19.

Support for affordable housing is a strategic priority of the MCDC board of directors.

Habitat for Humanity of Collin County is part of a global, nonprofit organization working to build strength, stability and self-reliance for families through shelter.

Habitat Collin County utilizes a two-pronged approach to  providing low income housing for families: construction of new homes for working families earning 30-60% below the median income levels for our area; exterior home repairs for low income homeowners earning below 60% of median household income levels.

All home construction and repair projects are completed through the efforts of more than 7,000 volunteers with materials obtained through donations, partners, sponsors and grants.

If approved, the funds will allow repairs to approximately 10 homes.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.153 of the Texas Local Government Code - Projects Related to Affordable Housing.

The project will enhance the quality of life for McKinney residents.
