RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance will establish a reduced speed school zone and crosswalk on Silverado Trail for Elliot Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The elementary school-aged student pedestrians that reside in the neighborhood of Barcelona must cross Silverado Trail along their designated route to school to attend Elliot Elementary School.
• Per the request of the Principal of Elliot Elementary School and Staff recommended, a traffic study was conducted that determined the need for a crossing guard on Silverado Trail at Brookstone Drive for the student pedestrians crossing at the intersection to attend Elliot Elementary School.
• The location of the proposed reduced speed school zone along Silverado Trail for Elliot Elementary School is shown in the attached exhibit.
• The crosswalk shown on the attached exhibit is the location where the adult crossing guards have been warranted through our crossing guard criteria.
• The school zone time periods will be consistent with the Frisco ISD school schedule.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds to install the school assemblies and related signage are available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
• Funds for the crossing guards are also available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
