* Approve the Resolution
ITEM SUMMARY:
* McKinney Downtown Business Re-Development, Inc (McKinney Main Street) is a private non-profit and the filing entity for the Historic Downtown McKinney Cultural District.
* The Texas Commission on the Arts provides grant funding to designated Cultural Districts for enhancements to the district to make it more accessible, attractive, cohesive-looking, and safe for visitors, including improved signage and wayfinding for the district.
* Grant applications are due June 15, 2019 for a grant performance period of September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020. Funding for this program has yet to be approved by the Texas Legislature.
* McKinney Main Street is working in tandem with Development Services, McKinney Arts Commission and McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau for the design and project scope of specialty neon signs to identify the district and identify parking.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* In November 2018, the Texas Commission on the Arts officially designated the Historic Downtown McKinney Cultural District. The McKinney Cultural District is one of 40 arts and cultural districts in Texas.
* The Cultural District is bounded on the north by Walker Street, east by Throckmorton, south by Standifer Street, and west by College Street.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* Cultural District project grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts provides up to $250,000 with a dollar for dollar match requirement. If approved, the match may come from any local source such as McKinney Community Development Corporation.
