RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Staff recommends consideration and action on this item.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Training and/or travel related to the duties of City Council members has long been funded through appropriated funds in the budget process each fiscal year.
• Generally, Council members make a training and/or travel request through the City Manager’s Office, and the City Manager confers with the Mayor on relevancy of said training and/or travel if funds are available to accommodate the request.
• If the Mayor deems a Council member’s request for training and/or travel to not be relevant to the duties of the McKinney City Council, or to be politically partisan in nature, training and/or travel requests are generally denied.
• If there is not a sufficient amount of training and/or travel funding available to fund a given request, the City Manager will inform the requesting Council member and Mayor.
• Outside of the procedures for training and/or travel approval outlined in the resolution, training and/or travel by members of the City Council is subject to the City of McKinney’s Travel Policy.

• The attached resolution is being presented for consideration to formalize the historical policy described within the ‘Item Summary’ above.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The City Council has budgeted the following amounts for Council member Training and/or Travel in the previous fiscal years:
o FY2015 - $23,000
o FY2016 - $15,000
o FY2017 - $18,500
o FY2018 - $18,500
o FY2019 - $18,700
