RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Receive Mayor’s Assignments for Board & Commission Interview Committees and Board & Commission Liaisons; Establish Board & Commission Interview Schedule
ITEM SUMMARY:
In this meeting,
• Mayor Fuller will present the interview committee assignments and liaison assignments
• City Council will establish the schedule for interviews
For the Board & Commission Member Appointment Process,
• Individuals interested in serving on a Board/Commission will submit applications at <https://mckinney.granicus.com/boards/forms/63/apply>, by June 30, 2019
• Candidate information will be provided to the Council during the week of July 8
• Board & Commission interviews will be conducted beginning the week of July 15
• The scheduled date for Council consideration of committee recommendations and Council member preferencing for Board & Commission appointments will be August 20, 2019 (or September 3 - any other date would be by special meeting)
• Board & Commission appointment terms will go into effect October 1, 2019, unless otherwise required by extenuating or acceptable cause
• Member Orientations and Open Government training will be conducted prior to the start of new terms
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The policy on Board & Commission Appointment and Eligibility (amended August 28, 2017) states
- The Mayor shall designate interview committees comprised of two (2) City Council members to interview candidates for Boards & Commissions
- The City Council shall set Board & Commission interview dates and times upon determining the interview committees
- The Mayor shall establish liaison assignments consisting of two (2) City Council members for each of the following Boards / Commissions: McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCVB), McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCVB), McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), McKinney Main Street, McKinney Housing Authority, Parks, Recreation & Open Space Advisory Board, and Planning & Zoning Commission
