RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of this Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Ordinance will rename Country Lane as Airport Drive from Wattley Way to Old Mill Road.
* This Ordinance will also remove inconsistencies in the use of the names Airport Road and Airport Drive on the several plats for properties along the roadway between University Drive (US 380) and Wattley Way.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Country Lane
* Country Lane currently begins at the intersection of Airport Drive and Wattley Way, and extends south to Old Mill Road.
* The McKinney City Council convened a committee for street naming in October, 2018. The committee provided direction to proceed with the renaming of Country Lane as Airport Drive.
Airport Road / Airport Drive
* The southbound lanes of roadway from University Drive (U.S. 380) to Industrial Boulevard were constructed in 2003 and were platted under the name Airport Road. The northbound lanes of the roadway between University Drive (U.S. 380) and Industrial Boulevard were constructed in 2008 and platted under the name Airport Drive.
* The portion of the roadway from Industrial Boulevard to Wattley Way was constructed in 2004 and platted as Airport Road.
* The parcels along the entire length of the roadway are all currently addressed as Airport Drive, regardless of the name that is shown on the respective plat.
