RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Ordinance
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance will revise speed zones for Airport Drive from University Drive (US 380) to Old Mill Road.
• This Ordinance will revise the speed zone along Harry McKillop Boulevard between McDonald Street (SH 5) and Airport Road.
• This Ordinance will revise the speed zone along FM 546 between Airport Road and the east City Limit.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Two separate items for consideration at this City Council meeting will revise street names which are related to the existing speed zone definitions in the Code of Ordinances for both Airport Drive, Harry McKillop Boulevard, and FM 546.
• The current speed zones along Airport Drive are defined in Section 62-117 of the Code of Ordinances. Airport Drive, Zone 1 is currently defined as the segment of Airport Drive north of Industrial Boulevard, with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour. Airport Drive, Zone 2 is currently defined as the segment of Airport Drive between Industrial Boulevard and FM 546, with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
• The renaming of Country Lane as Airport Drive extends the physical limits of Airport Drive, Zone 2 to Harry McKillop Boulevard. This item codifies this modification.
• The existing boundary between Zone 1 and Zone 2 at Industrial Boulevard is unnecessary as the speed limit is the same in both zones. This item removes this boundary and combines the existing zones into a revised Zone 1, to extend between University Drive (US 380) and Harry McKillop Boulevard.
• The speed limit along the roadway formerly known as Country Lane was not codified and existed at the State of Texas de facto Prima Facie speed limit of 30 miles per hour. This item proposes to retain the 30 mile per hour speed limit on Airport Drive south of Harry McKillop Boulevard.
• The speed limit along Harry McKillop is defined with reference to Country Lane. This item revises this reference to Wattley Way.
• The speed limit along FM 546 is defined with reference to Country Lane. This item revises this reference to Wattley Way.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Installation of signage associated with this item is available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
