RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approve the Resolution

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     On May 21, 2019, Agenda Item 19-0439, City Council authorized staff to apply for grant funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

                     On June 13, 2019, Agenda Item 19-0481, funding of $12,000 from the Public Art Fund was approved by Arts Commission as match for available TCA grant funds.

                     An additional $5,500 was approved by the Arts Commission as match for the TCA grant amount of $17,500 to provide $35,000 in total for the project

                     The grant will fund public artwork, in the form of butterflies, created by McKinney artists, and placed at strategic locations within the Cultural District.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The City of McKinney has obtained a Cultural District Designation.

                     The Texas Commission on the Arts has approved grant funding of $17,500 for the City of McKinney to support this project in the Cultural District.

                     In 2018, the City of McKinney signed the National Wildlife Federation’s Monarch Pledge, supporting the creation of beneficial ecosystems to ensure the future of the monarch butterfly and other pollinators.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     Funds will be taken from 058-9999-453-8516.

                     Inclusive of all current obligations, $84,734 will be available in the Public Art Fund if this additional amount is approved

                     The Arts Commission recommended approval of this item at their October 17, 2019 meeting
