ITEM SUMMARY:

This park is located at 6135 Alma Road, which is on the east side of Alma Road between Collin McKinney Parkway and Henneman Way.

Naming of a park is typically coordinated with the project’s construction, which is underway.

The City’s naming policy requires that the Parks Board provide a name or names to the City Council for consideration, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by City Council.

Generally, a name(s) should be selected based on the following: Outstanding and/or predominant geographical or physical features of the land; Outstanding and/or predominant historical features of significance; Contributions of land for a park site; or in honor of a community/state leader or hero.

The recommended name for this park is Creekside Park, due to its proximity to Watters Branch Creek and its connection to it.  One of the amenities within this park will be a pedestrian bridge over the creek linking it to the Craig Ranch Soccer Complex.

Using the naming criteria listed above, this name was selected based upon physical features of the park.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This is a park that is required per a Development Agreement approved by the City in 2018 that was negotiated during the redevelopment of the Craig Ranch ballfields into multi family.

Per that agreement, the developer is required at their cost to construct a new park that includes landscaping, a linear trail, signage, shade structures and seating.  Once these improvements are constructed the park will be dedicated to the City with the Craig Ranch HOA responsible for maintenance.

Additionally, there will be a pedestrian bridge linking the park to the soccer complex to the east as well as a gateway monument constructed along Alma Road as called for in the Parks Master Plan.
