RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Appoint a member to the NCTCOG 9-1-1 (NCT9-1-1) Emergency Communications District Board of Managers
ITEM SUMMARY:
* McKinney City Council will appoint a member to the NCT9-1-1 Emergency Communications District Board of Managers to a two-year term expiring December 31, 2021. The appointed member must be an elected official of the city.
* The term tentatively calls for eight meetings: one each in March, June, September, and December of 2020 and 2021. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for March 5, 2020.
* ?The program responsibilities of the NCT9-1-1 Board of Managers are to:
* Name, control and manage the District
* Annually adopt the Strategic Plan, Budget, and Service Fee for NCT9-1-1
* Adopt, alter, or amend the policies of the District
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* In the 84th Session of the Texas Legislature, SB 1108 was passed to allow councils of governments to form 9-1-1 Districts whereby all fees collected from citizens and businesses within these districts are remitted directly to the districts to be used solely for the provision of 9-1-1 services. It also called for these districts to be governed by local elected officials from member counties and cities.
* The North Central Texas COG (NCTCOG) currently administers 9-1-1 services under the direction of the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications.
