ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Ordinance amends Section 62-111.1 of the Code of Ordinances to reduce the speed limit for the Westbound Frontage Road of SH 121 between Hardin Boulevard and Custer Road (FM 2478) to 55 mph.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) periodically conducted speed zone studies along the SH 121 and Spur 399 Frontage Roads adjacent to the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) corridor to evaluate the speed limits and recommend adjustments to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as needed.
* In May 2020, NTTA proposed to TxDOT a reduction in the existing speed limit of 60 mph to a recommended 55 mph speed limit along the Westbound Frontage Road of SH 121 between Hardin Boulevard and Custer Road (FM 2478).
* The speed limit for the remainder of the Westbound Frontage Roads of SH 121 between Central Expressway (US 75) and Hardin Boulevard remains unchanged at 55 mph.
* The City Limit between McKinney and Allen is the centerline of the median along SH 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway); therefore, this Ordinance will only apply to the Westbound Frontage Road of SH 121 from US 75 to Custer Road (FM 2478).
* The speed limit of the Spur 399 Frontage Roads between Central Expressway (US 75) and SH 5 will also remain unchanged at 55 mph.
