ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     McKinney Arts Commission funds local arts organizations through Season Support Grants.

                     13 arts agencies have MAC Season Support Grants.

                     MAC Liaisons would offer the ability for Commissioners to learn more about local arts organizations.

                     Each arts organization would have one MAC liaison.

                     Commissioners would be assigned at least one arts organization. 5 commissioners would be assigned two arts organizations.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     McKinney Arts Commission liaisons were part of the commissioners’ function when the commission was established in 2005.

                     The liaison role was discontinued in 2011.

                     As part of City Ordinance - Sec. 2-199. - Duties and responsibilities.                     

                     The arts commission shall discharge the following responsibilities:

o                     (1)Develop cooperation and coordination with private citizens, institutions, agencies and local, regional and national art organizations interested in conducting activities related to the arts.

o                     (2)Provide and assist in the development of the arts in the city by providing a biannual "state of the arts" assessment to the city council.

o                     (3)Make recommendations to the city council relative to expenditures of budgeted and allocated city funds for the purpose of promoting and sustaining the arts in the city.

o                     (4)Advise and assist the city council in connection with proposed arts related programs within the community.

o                     (5)Provides oversight of the development and management of the public art master plan.

o                     (6)Responsible for fundraising efforts toward the funding of public art. (Ord. No. 2013-10-093, § 2, 10-1-2013)
