RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approval of the Resolution.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This agenda item will authorize a professional services contract with Studio Outside Landscape Architecture, in a contract amount of $506,500 and not to exceed $550,000, to provide landscape architectural design services for four new diamond fields, restroom/concession building, pavilion, parking and trail connections within Gabe Nesbitt Park.

 

                     The estimated construction budget for this project is $8 million dollars.

 

                     These improvements will be located immediately east of the existing baseball fields and south of the library and are being designed in accordance with the recent master plan update for the park.

 

                     Ancillary improvements include additional parking, a centrally located restroom and concession building with storage, picnic pavilion and trail connections to the existing hike and bike trails that are within the park.

 

 

                                                                                                                              

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Studio Outside was selected from a list of pre-qualified landscape architectural firms that Council approved on June 18, 2019.

 

                     They recently completed an update to the master plan to assist in the completion of the remainder of the park.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     This project (PK1806) is a FY20-21 Capital Improvements Program that was funded by MCDC funds and Parkland Dedication Funds in an amount of $4,658,468.

 

                     Over the 18-months we have completed various projects at this park to include new field lighting, scoreboard replacements, new play structures, and improvements to existing fields. 

 

                     Upon approval of this item, $1,822,744.29 remains in the project.

 

                     This project is earmarked for additional funding through available Parkland Dedication Funds and General Obligation Bonds which have yet to be sold for the project.

 

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:

                     The Parks, Recreation & Open Space Advisory Board unanimously recommended approval of this item at their January 14th meeting.
