RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Discuss median landscape maintenance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· Based on existing drought and water restriction conditions and budget savings, maintenance of parks, medians, athletic facilities, and beds was reduced.
· The current cost for contract mowing of these sites was established by bid in 2007. It is projected that the cost for contract mowing will increase when the contract is rebid in November 2012.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Comparison cost of higher level maintenance options will be presented.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· The FY2010-2011 budget included a mowing cycle of 7 and 14 days (depending on location) at $1,394 per acre annual cost, including irrigation.
· The FY2011-2012 budget reduced the mowing cycle to 14 and 21 days (depending on location) at $887 per acre annual cost, including irrigation.
· The budget for median landscape maintenance was reduced by approximately $76,000 between FY 2011 and this current budget year.
