ITEM SUMMARY:
• MCDC will conduct a public hearing on a request submitted by McKinney Parks and Recreation Department in the amount of $8,000,000 for the following projects:
o $100,000 for Trails Wayfinding Plan;
o $2,800,000 for Old Settler’s Park and Aquatic renovations including pavilion, play structure, restroom improvements, fencing, courts, and shade structures;
o $2,000,000 for Al Ruschhaupt Park road connection;
o $3,000,000 for Erwin Park improvements including upgrading restrooms, parking and play equipment; and
o $100,000 for parks accessibility including replacing and repairing areas that are out of ADA compliance.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The proposed projects are included in the city’s 10-year CIP and will allow growth in areas that meet the most immediate needs of the community in the most cost-effective manner.
• The Parks Master Plan, approved in 2017 and updated in 2022, identifies areas of deficit, guides the process for addressing growth and provides a plan for immediate and long-term park, park facilities and trail improvement needs.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• If funding for this request is approved by MCDC, funding amount will be included in MCDC’s FY 25-26 annual budget.
• The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code.
