ITEM SUMMARY:
• Texas Women Society is requesting $8,500 for the advertising, marketing and promotion of the 2024 McKinney Asian Festival to be held March 23, 2024, at Dr. Glenn Mitchell Memorial Park.
• The event goal is to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation by showcasing the sights, sounds and tastes of the many different Asian countries represented in our community. This will be done through traditional dances and music performances, delicious food offerings, and fun family activities. The event will also feature a pre-event photographic contest and scavenger hunt.
• The grant would be used to expand the marketing scope of the festival and reach a wider audience not only in the DFW area but also in the surrounding states/cities.
• It is not clear from the application as to whether there will be admission to the event. Visit McKinney’s board will clarify this during the meeting.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Texas Women Society is a non-profit women’s organization in the North Texas area, founded by three Asian Women Jennie Shen, Summer Yu, and Catherine Chen in March 2022. They work to create a welcoming environment where all women can come together, connect, and learn about different cultures. The organization’s mission is to empower women and make a positive impact on our community by increasing awareness of different cultures and promoting unity through diversity and understanding.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Visit McKinney’s allocation for Promotional and Community Event grants for FY 24 is $30,000 -- $15,000 for Cycle I applicants and $15,000 for Cycle II applicants.
