ITEM SUMMARY:

The Resolution authorizes the City Manager to execute a grant agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System for Project AI2452, Extend Runway 18 Phase 1 - 500’ North at the McKinney National Airport.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

McKinney National Airport applied for a Federal Contract Tower (FCT) grant for the installation of an Airfield Lighting and Control System (ALCMS) on 12/1/2023.

The FAA has given notice of award to McKinney National Airport of the pending FCT grant on 4/29/2024.

TxDOT will be administering the grant.

The ALCMS simplifies the control and monitoring of lighted visual aids and enhances airport safety per the FAA’s Advisory Circular 150/5345-56B.

The ALCMS allows for comprehensive and uninterrupted computerized control of the airfield lighting circuits at the fingertips of the airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower operators, necessary for airports with high volume runway operations, approach lighting and approach aids.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Total Project costs for the ALCMS are estimated not to exceed $345,000 and are 100% reimbursable through the FCT grant administered by TxDOT.

The City of McKinney will be responsible for any project costs in excess of the $345,000 grant amount.

Sufficient funds are available in Project AI2452, Extend Runway 18 Phase 1 - 500’ North to cover the cost of the ALCMS project.
