ITEM SUMMARY:
As you know, we have been working with Raymond Turco and Associates to conduct a citizen survey. This is the first citizen survey conducted in recent years, and is therefore a baseline opinion assessment at an overarching level. Raymond Turco & Associates is a full service public opinion firm and has conducted representative public opinion research for many communities, school districts and private firms throughout the region.
A general survey with a statistically valid representative sample of 700 has yielded results in the +/- 4% range across geographic and demographic areas. Data collected allows us to gauge McKinney citizens’ awareness and opinions on the value of current city services, information on what services they would like to see more or less of, how they prefer to receive information from the city and their current perception of customer service levels. Statistically valid citizen surveys are a critical two-way communications component in gauging perceptions and areas of improvement that the City can incorporate into work plans moving forward. The information serves as a useful baseline for future surveys, to measure improvements made over time.
Mr. Turco has completed the City of McKinney citizen survey and summary report and will be giving an overview of the key findings. Overall results are extremely positive. The following are a few highlights:
• 96% of respondents were either satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of life in McKinney. Comparatively only 4% were negative, with only 1% extremely critical. The ratio of positive to negative comments is 24.0:1, meaning that if queried, 24 residents would comment positively before one person were to say one negative item about quality of life.
• Growth/fast growth/managing growth, traffic congestion, and road conditions/construction/infrastructure were identified most frequently as the most important issues facing McKinney when asked an open-ended query on the topic.
• Nearly half the respondents indicated they had had contact with a city employee in the last 12 months. Of those, 91% said they felt they were treated courteously.
• “I am satisfied with living in McKinney” was the city-related statement that generated the highest ratio of agreement at 97%. Agreement was also significant for having an excellent city workforce, educational resources and a belief that their neighborhood receives sufficient city services.
