RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve the proposed Resolution.
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      The purpose of these services is to design and engineering services for phase one of a recreation center and aquatics facility on the southeast corner of Hardin Boulevard and White Street.
 
·      Twenty-one respondents to the request for qualifications were evaluated by staff from MISD and Parks, Recreation and Open Space.
 
·      Brinkley Sargent Architects has proposed design and engineering services for the design of the Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility in an amount of $3,700,000.
 
·      It is recommended that the Council authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with Brinkley Sargent Architects in an amount not to exceed $3,700,000 for design and engineering services for phase 1 on the Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility contingent upon MISD funding 50% of the design fees.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      On June 16, 2009, Brinkley Sargent Architects presented the Recreation and Aquatics feasibility study to City Council.
 
·      In November of 2008, City Council awarded Brinkley Sargent Architects the design contract for preparation of a Recreation and Aquatics Feasibility Study and Master Plan.  
      
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
·      The Recreation Center/Aquatic Complex Design & Phase I Construction Project (PK7102) is a FY 09-10 Capital Improvements Program funded by general obligation funds, MCDC funds, and parkland dedication funds.
 
BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:  
On November 12, 2009, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board recommended to City Council that Brinkley Sargent Architects be awarded a design contract for phase I on the Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility.
