RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approve Ordinance
ITEM SUMMARY:
- This Ordinance will establish a speed limit of 40 mph on the annexed portions of the following roadways:
- o Virginia Parkway, west of Custer Road
- o Hardin Boulevard, north of Wilmeth Road
- o Community Avenue, north of Bloomdale Road
- o Bloomdale Road, west of FM 543
- o Industrial Boulevard, east of FM 546
- o Henneman Way between Alma Drive and Stacy Road
- This Ordinance also removes the section establishing a speed zone on FM 720 from the Code of Ordinances because the name has been changes to McKinney Ranch Parkway and Stacy Road, both of which currently have a speed limit of 40 mph as provided by the Code of Ordinance.
-
- BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
- Construction of Virginia Parkway between Custer Road and Aero Country has been completed and the roadway is open to traffic.
- Hardin Boulevard, north of Wilmeth Road is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed this month.
- Henneman Way between Alma Drive and Stacy Road is open to traffic but does not have an Ordinance establishing a speed limit.
- Factors considered in recommending a speed limit along these roadways include the design speed and the existing speed limit along other sections of the same roadway.
- The design speed of each of these roadways is 45 mph.
- The speed limit for the existing segments of each of these roadways is 40 mph.
- Establishing the speed limit at 40 mph will keep the speed limit consistent along the entire length of these roadways.
- The Ordinance will extend the existing posted speed limits of sections of Community Avenue, Bloomdale Road and Industrial Boulevard.
