ITEM SUMMARY:

Habitat for Humanity requests $30,000 for engineering costs necessary to rebuild the Pride Court retaining wall in Charleston Creek.

A future funding request to cover construction is anticipated for application to the City and McKinney Community Development Corporation in Spring 2024.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Charleston Creek is a Habitat for Humanity neighborhood constructed in 2007 and 2008.

In February 2018, after a significant rain event, the retaining wall in the neighborhood behind 613 Pride Court collapsed.

As the management association for the neighborhood, Habitat for Humanity seeks funding in order to reconstruct the wall.

Per the bylaws, funding received from MPFC projects is allocated to the general fund.

The MPFC received $2,000,000 at the closing of the Jefferson Verdant project. $1,500,000 was provided as a loan for the Palladium multifamily project in June, 2023. $500,000 remains and is budgeted in the Community Grants Fund.

Request to utilize funds from MPFC projects are presented to the MPFC as informational and for a recommendation. City Council makes the final decision and approves any necessary agreements.

A resolution and grant agreement are on the December 19, 2023 City Council Regular Agenda for approval.
