ITEM SUMMARY:

  • The Resolution supports NCTCOG’s and RTC’s Air North Texas Campaign.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

  • Air North Texas is a regional clean air initiative led by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Regional Transportation Council (RTC). It is a voluntary partnership among cities, nonprofits, and businesses that promotes air quality awareness and encourages clean air actions across the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
  • The DFW region is classified as a nonattainment area for ozone by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, indicating persistent air quality challenges that impact public health and regional economic growth. Air North Texas unifies regional efforts by providing partners with shared branding, educational resources, and outreach tools for consistent and effective communication.
  • By joining the program, the City of McKinney would demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship and regional collaboration. Participation involves promoting clean air messages through city channels, engaging in at least one clean air event or media activity annually, and reporting progress to Air North Texas.

  • In return, McKinney would receive regional recognition as an official partner, access to campaign materials and media support, inclusion on the Air North Texas website, and eligibility for annual awards alongside other partners.
