ITEM SUMMARY:
• In 2025, MCDC approved a project grant application submitted by the McKinney Parks Foundation in the amount of $20,000 for the purchase of a Polaris Sportsman ATV and a Bosski 1600 UT Trailer accessory to facilitate trail improvement projects in McKinney parks.
• The Polaris ATV was purchased in September of 2025.
• The McKinney Parks Foundation is requesting a retroactive extension of this grant due to a delay in purchasing the trailer. Purchase delay was due to delayed availability of the trailer.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Support for McKinney parks and recreational facilities and preservation of open space and natural areas is a strategic priority for the MCDC board of directors.
• The McKinney Parks Foundation (MPF) has been in existence since 2017 and has three main functions: organizing volunteers to help with parks projects; encouraging resident engagement in park activities and programs; providing a structure for organizing educational opportunities about the natural environment.
• MPF is recognized as the Trail Steward organization for the Community Center nature Trail and has put in more than 100 volunteer hours to restore, manage and expand the trail.
• MPF coordinates teams of volunteers to work on park projects such maintenance of hike and bike trails, building nature trails, upkeep of parks and open spaces and adding amenities.
• MPF partners with other local organizations such as Master Naturalists, Crape Myrtle Trails Foundation and DORBA to fulfill its mission.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• This extension request does not impact the amount of the original grant awarded.
• The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code - Projects related to Recreational or Community Facilities
