ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance amends the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Annual Budget by appropriating $360,000 from the Hotel / Motel Fund balance and transferring it to the Visit McKinney Fund for the Visit McKinney Office Renovation Project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Visit McKinney, the City's destination marketing organization, is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of its office and visitor center at 200 W. Virginia St. in McKinney, TX. The renovation scope includes office reconfiguration, some new doors and hardware, floor painting and leveling, painting, HVAC rework, data cabling, AV and technology systems, security improvements for staff, furniture, and visitor center improvements. The new layout will allow current staff members who are operating in temporary spaces to have dedicated offices and position the organization for future growth. Over the course of more than a year, staff coordinated with the City's Facilities and IT departments to develop a complete scope of work and finalize contractor quotes, with all contractors procured through cooperative purchasing contracts (TIPS, BuyBoard, GSA) that the City regularly uses. During the planning process, mold was discovered in the office space; the property landlord is responsible for remediation under the terms of the lease, and that work will commence once the offices are vacated. Staff will operate temporarily from the fifth floor of City Hall during construction. The project is anticipated to begin in August 2026 with a target completion before the holiday season.
