Summary

 

COUNCIL GOAL:                                          Enhance the Quality of Life in McKinney

(5A: Create affordable recreational and cultural arts activities for all ages throughout the city)

RECOMMENDED PARK BOARD ACTION:                     

                     Approval of the Recommendation. 

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This 2.5-acre linear park is located within the Craig Ranch development and is a requirement of the PD zoning that governs the property.  

 

                     The park is nearing completion and needs to be named.

 

                     The City’s naming policy requires that the Park Board provide a name or names to the City Council for consideration, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by City Council.

 

                     Generally, a name(s) should be selected based on the following: Outstanding and/or predominant geographical or physical features of the land; Outstanding and/or predominant historical features of significance; Contributions of land for a park site; or in honor of a community/state leader or hero.

 

                     This is an urban linear park that is being constructed by Craig Ranch and consists of a series of linear trails, exercise stations and shade structures with seating.

 

                     The following names, which staff supports, have been submitted by the developer:

 

o                     Wellness Park

o                     Circuit Park

o                     Phantom Park

o                     McKinney Corporate Center Park

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     This is a park that is required per the PD Zoning that governs the property, Ord No. 2020-11-082. 

 

                     This park will be dedicated to the City once completed, but will be maintained by the Craig Ranch Community Association.
