ITEM SUMMARY:

•                     Jeffrey Hull, community volunteer, Vice Chair of the Arts Commission and President of the Pecan Grove Cemetery Association, passed away on May 28, 2018.

•                     As a tribute to Commissioner Hull’s public service, the Arts Commission would like to fund a sculpture bench in Pecan Grove Cemetery, as part of a monarch butterfly garden that he and Martha Cavazos-Fipps were working on at the time of his death.

•                     The professional services contract with Brian Keith for the sculpture bench is attached.

•                     The cost of the sculpture bench will be $27,000 plus approximately $1,500 installation fee.

•                     At the April 18, 2019 meeting, the Arts Commission approved an expenditure of $13,500 toward the sculpture bench. The remaining funds will be fundraised from the community.

•                     Attached is the License Agreement with Pecan Grove outlining City and Pecan Grove responsibilities for the five year license agreement period.

•                     The sculpture bench will automatically be de-commissioned on October 1, 2025 and donated to Pecan Grove Cemetery.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

•                     On November 6, 2018, City Council approved the expenditure to Brian Keith to create a model for the Mitchell Park Sculpture.

•                     Although the design was not selected for Mitchell Park, the Arts Commission and family of Jeff Hull felt that the sculpture would be perfect as a memorial for Jeffrey Hull in Pecan Grove Cemetery.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

•                     The estimated total cost of the Jeffrey Hull Memorial Sculpture Bench is $27,000 plus $1,500 installation fee.

•                     $13,500 will be paid from the Public Art Fund with the remaining cost of the sculpture bench will be fundraised from the community.

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:

•                     On April 18, 2019, the Arts Commission approved the expenditure of $13,500 from the Public Art Fund for the sculpture bench.
