ITEM SUMMARY:

This Resolution authorizes the City Manager to execute a contract in the amount of $128,835, as well as all required supplemental agreements thereto, with Kleinfelder, Inc. for geotechnical and materials testing services for the construction of the Stacy Road Elevated Storage Tank Project (CIP Project WA1714), for a total aggregate contract amount, inclusive of any supplemental agreements, not to exceed $150,000.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

City Council awarded the construction for the Stacy Road Elevated Storage Tank Project (CIP Project WA1714) on March 5, 2024.

Materials testing services will be required on the project to ensure construction materials used by the contractor meet or exceed City requirements.

On February 28, 2024, we started negotiating with Kleinfelder, Inc. for materials testing and inspection services related to the Stacy Road Elevated Storage Tank construction project (WA1714). The services include coating inspections, welding inspections, and reinforcement inspections in addition to the standard concrete strength and soil densities provided on a typical materials testing contract. Kleinfelder was selected because their team includes a subconsultant who will provide specialized testing and inspection services related to the Stacy Road Elevated Storage Tank construction project.

Kleinfelder, Inc. submitted a proposal to provide geotechnical and materials testing services for the construction of the Stacy Road Elevated Storage Tank construction project in the amount of $128,835 which has been reviewed by staff and is recommended for approval.

Reimbursement for materials testing services provided will be made based on actual time and materials billing in amount not to exceed the estimated proposal amount.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

This Resolution authorizes a contract and all necessary supplemental agreements with Kleinfelder, Inc., for an amount not to exceed $150,000.

Funding for this contract is included in the Capital Improvements Program (WA1714).

With the approval of this item, $850,000 will remain in Project WA1714.
