ITEM SUMMARY:
• McKinney Community Development Corporation will conduct a public hearing on a project grant application submitted by Collin County History Museum in the amount of $31,475.00 for the purchase of equipment and materials that will assist with the preservation and storage of historic artifacts:
o Shelving and cases for proper and safe storage of artifacts;
o Museum exhibits including cases, mannequins, and cabinets; and
o Mobile workstations for staff and exhibits.
• The need to better preserve and store items is paramount to the museum’s mission.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The mission of the Collin County History Museum is to preserve and honor the past, connect with the present and embrace the future.
• The exhibit will promote heritage tourism in McKinney.
• The goal of Collin County History Museum is to collaborate and form partnerships with downtown businesses to attract visitors to the museum exhibits and to other businesses in the downtown area.
• Collaboration will take place with McKinney Main Street and Visit McKinney.
• In connection with the exhibit, the museum will host lectures, events and activities to attract visitors and promote the rich heritage of McKinney.
• The museum hosts nearly 8,000 visitors each year.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds allocated for FY25 for discretionary Community, Economic Development and Pipeline Project grants total $7,459,257.
The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code.
