RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION:
* Staff recommends approval of requested TIRZ1 funding for the design phase of the McKinney Downtown Fire Sprinkler Project.

ITEM SUMMARY:
* This City is requesting TIRZ1 funding in the amount of $460,000 for a contract with Reed Fire Protection Engineering, L.L.C for the design phase of the McKinney Downtown Fire Sprinkler Project.

* The McKinney Downtown Fire Sprinkler Project is intended to promote 100% coverage of the 9-block study area in downtown McKinney with fire alarms and fire sprinkler systems. This effort is being made to preserve the historic buildings around the courthouse square with their economic and cultural/tourism value to the community.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

* A contract with Reed Fire Project Engineering, L.L.C. is on tonight's City Council agenda in the amount of $420,775, with a not to exceed amount of $460,000 for professional consulting engineering services for the McKinney Downtown Fire Sprinkler project.

* This project involves nine (9) blocks in downtown McKinney, Texas. The selected design firm will be required to assess these downtown blocks, create as-built plans for existing buildings where such plans are not already available, propose design options for each block, and develop a comprehensive design that includes fire risers and main lines to ensure proper access to each property.
