                     5A: Create affordable recreational and cultural arts activities for all ages throughout the city.

                     5H: Enhance connectivity to parks & civic facilities, schools/education centers, libraries, health care providers, commercial centers, etc.

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting funds in the amount of $5,500,000 for park and facility redevelopment and improvements and for design and construction of various improvements at Towne Lake and hike and bike trail projects.

                     Towne Lake                     $3,500,000

                     Greens Trail  $2,000,000

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The proposed projects are part of the 10-year CIP and will allow growth in areas that meet the most immediate needs of the community in the most cost-effective manner.

 

                     The Parks Master Plan, approved in 2017 and updated in 2022, identifies areas of deficit, provides a vision for addressing growth and provides a plan for immediate and long-term park, park facilities and trail improvement needs. 

 

                     The Parks Master Plan was utilized in identifying projects for this FY 23-24 grant application.  

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

                     This request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Sections 501 to 505 of the Texas Local Government Code.

 

                     These projects promote parks and park developments that will enhance the quality of life for McKinney residents.
