RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Appoint a member to the NTMWD Board
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The term for sitting NTMWD Board Director Geralyn Kever will expire May 31, 2023. The City Council may re-appoint Ms. Kever or appoint a new Director who will serve June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2025.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) was established in 1951 and provides water for 13 Member cities: Original ten cities of Farmersville, Forney, Garland, McKinney, Mesquite, Princeton, Plano, Rockwall, Royse City, and Wylie; and Richardson (1973), Allen (1998), and Frisco (2001).
• Cities with a population greater than 5,000 appoint two members to the board; Cities with populations less than 5,000 appoint one member.
• Board appointments are two years in length.
• McKinney Directors are:
o Geralyn Kever was appointed to a full term in 2021 which expires May 31, 2023. She has served on the Legislative Committee and is the Vice Chair of the Water Committee. Ms. Kever was preceded by Joe Joplin, who served the NTMWD for 18 years (2003-2021).
o Don Paschal was appointed February 21, 2023 to a partial term which expires May 31, 2024. Mr. Paschal was preceded by Robert Appolito who served nearly 2 years (2021-2023), and Charles McKissick who served 19 years (2001-2020).
