RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: The City Attorney recommends approval of a resolution reappointing Candace Carlsen as Associate Municipal Court Judge for an additional two-year term.
ITEM SUMMARY: If reappointed, Associate Municipal Court Judge Candace Carlsen would serve for an additional two-year term.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: State law, the McKinney home rule charter, and Section 66-3 of the City’s Code of Ordinances provide authority to the City Council to appoint those judges presiding over the City’s Municipal Court. Under state law, the term for municipal judges is two (2) years. The City Council in 2021 appointed Candace Carlsen to the position of Associate Municipal Court Judge for a two-year term. To continue her service an additional two-year term reappointment is required, per the attached resolution.
