RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of the Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Resolution authorizes the Interim City Manager to enter into a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement (LPAFA) with TxDOT to furnish and install city-wide bicycle signage.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* In 2012 bicycle signs "Bike May Use Full Lane" were installed on the major arterial roadways in locations identified in the City of McKinney On-Street Bicycle Transportation Master Plan.
* On November 6th, 2012 Council supported a resolution authorizing city staff to submit an application for this Transportation Enhancements grant.
* The McKinney application was ranked third out of 18 submissions for the eastern subregion of the metroplex.
* This project proposes to install "Bike May Use Full Lane" signs and signs denoting bicycle boulevard routes on collector and residential roadways identified in the City of McKinney On-Street Bicycle Transportation Master Plan.
* Staff will investigate the possibility of installing "sharrow" markings on one street to further education of the public for this type of treatment.
* The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016.
* The signs are being installed to promote bicycle routes along residential and collector streets; increase connections to neighborhoods, schools, libraries, parks, shopping, and downtown; and increase driver awareness of bicyclists on roadways and travel lanes.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* The total project cost is estimated to be $250,000.
