Summary
MEETING DATE: August 20, 2013
DEPARTMENT: Development Services/Engineering
CONTACT: Paul Tucker, P.E. - Senior Utility Engineer
RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Adoption of Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Resolution authorizes the adoption of the Water System Master Plan.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· An update to the City's Water Master Plan has been completed by Birkhoff, Hendricks & Carter, L.L.P.
- The Water Master Plan provides information for sizing and approximate locations of the pump stations, ground storage facilities, elevated storage tanks, and water lines.
- Analyses were completed for the years 2012, 2022 and build-out water system conditions. Model calibration was based on actual field data including tank levels, pressure meters, billing information and pumping data.
- The plan is based land use assumptions and population projections prepared by the Planning Department.
- The 2012 Water System Master Plan revisions compared to the previous master plan are:
- City's water conservation strategies have helped to reduce the demands on the system resulting in Maximum-Hour gallons per capita per day (gpcd) reduced from 1,100 gpcd to 950 gpcd which provides for:
- Smaller water line sizes.
- Reduced size of pumping and ground storage facilities.
- Reduced volume of storage for elevated storage tanks.
- Minor revisions to this master plan may occur prior to the next update due to the dynamic aspects of the plan i.e. water line routes, elevated tank locations, etc.
