ITEM SUMMARY:
* The McKinney Community Development Corporation will consider a request for approval to lease an approximately 11,000 square foot parcel of land, owned by McKinney Community Development Corporation, and located at 704 Greenville Road for the purpose of creating a Learning Garden to benefit residents of McKinney.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The parcel of land is adjacent to the TUPPS Brewery Campus.
* Community needs that have been identified that would benefit from a Learning Garden include:
o Access to high quality food/produce
o Education regarding healthy eating
o Identification of resources and materials to plant a home garden.
o Need for greater awareness of community resources fighting hunger, local farms, volunteer opportunities, local businesses and events.
* Creation of the Learning Garden will provide a venue to provide important educational information to support home gardens and grow and harvest vegetables for home consumption.
* Community support includes:
o Local gardeners, plant societies, master gardeners, agency leaders, restauranteurs
o HUGS Caf?
o La Tiendita
o TUPPS Brewery

* Initial build would be funded through McKinney Parks and Recreation, Texas Health Resources and local businesses and donors.
* Garden development and ongoing management will be led by McKinney Parks Foundation
