ITEM SUMMARY:
• Approve the resolution recognizing and approving the establishment of the McKinney Neighborhood Heroes Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The McKinney Fire Department has been actively pursuing innovative community risk reduction and cardiac arrest response initiatives aimed at improving survival rates for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
• National studies consistently demonstrate that early CPR and rapid defibrillation greatly increase the likelihood of survival following cardiac arrest. The Neighborhood Heroes Program builds upon existing community response efforts by empowering training residents to provide immediate intervention before the arrival of emergency responders.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funding associated with the Neighborhood Heroes Program will include donations, community contributions, and other funding opportunities that support the purchase, deployment, maintenance, and related technology associated with AEDs utilized within the program.
