RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Provide direction to the MCVB Executive Director and City Attorney.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc. (MCVB) seeks permission from the City Council to obtain an assumed name certificate to allow it to conduct business as “Visit McKinney”.
• The MCVB has for some time used “Visit McKinney” as its unofficial name. This resolution would authorize the MCVB Executive Director to formalize this designation through an assumed name certificate.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• State law requires corporations that regularly conduct business under a name other its legal name to file an assumed name certificate with the secretary of state and with the county clerk in the appropriate county.
• The filing of an assumed name certificate will not change the MCVB’s legal name. Instead, the filing will give notice to the public that the MCVB is conducting business as “Visit McKinney”.
• Because there is no change to the MCVB’s legal name, no bylaw amendment is required at this time.
