RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Discuss graphic and future amendment to Electioneering ordinance

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This is an informational item to receive staff’s recommendation on areas for preferred voter parking and electioneering at City Hall for the May 3, 2025 General Election, including the early voting period from April 22-29

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

  • The City has contracted with the Collin County Elections office to conduct the May election at the McKinney Municipal Complex (New City Hall).
  • The current Electioneering Ordinance designates areas for placement of electioneering signs, as well as standards for such placement.
  • An amendment to the Electioneering Ordinance, adding the graphic, will be required prior to Early Voting.
  • Staff is preparing the amendment for consideration on March 31, or April 15 (at the latest).
  • In making its recommendation, Staff has analyzed the relevant factors for this year’s election: perimeter construction, access points into New City Hall property, voter entry door, internal location of voting booths, directional signage, safety to voters, prohibited electioneering area (100’ zone), and voting hours
