ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The 89th Session of the Texas State Legislature will begin Tuesday, January 14th, 2025.

o                     Bill filing for the 89th Session began on November 11th, 2024.

o                     Each legislative session, the McKinney City Council has adopted a slate of priorities that are meant to communicate to our delegation and the legislature at large the policy positions the Council supports and/or opposes.

                     Generally, these issues are related to,

o                     Protecting the home-rule authority of the City of McKinney, and

o                     Opposing measures that result in an erosion of home-rule authority or create unfunded mandates for the City of McKinney and its citizens.

                     The draft priorities have been developed based on coordination with the members of the City Council, our legislative consultants, the Texas Municipal League, the North Texas Commission, other cities in our region, and members of the city staff.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The September 3rd, 2024, Regular Meeting includes a resolution for Council to consider adopting the proposed priorities.
