RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance will modify the reduced speed school zone and crosswalk location along Greenville Road for Webb Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Reduced speed school zones are installed to protect student pedestrians at designated school crosswalks.
• In order to maintain motorist compliance in reduced speed school zones, it is important that the limits of the zones be set such that student activity is present while the zone is active, and that the overall length of the zone is not excessive.
• Staff will modify the overall length of the reduced speed school zone on Greenville Road where the eastern limit is closer to the crosswalk location on Greenville Road at Jennie Street.
• The crosswalk location will be modified to be relocated to the intersection of Greenville Road at Jennie Street so barrier-free ramps may be added to make the crosswalk ADA accessible.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds to relocate the signage is available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department and the barrier-free ramp will be funded in the operating budget of the Public Works Department.
