ITEM SUMMARY:
• Direction 61:3 is requesting a grant in the amount of $5,000 to advertise, market and promote the 2019 Christmas Mosaix event.
• Christmas Mosaix has been in place since 2017 with past performances at the Sanctuary Events Center.
• Direction 61:3 is working with MISD to secure the new performance center at McKinney High School for the 2019 event.
• Plans include hosting two concerts on Saturday, December 21, 2019.
• Performing groups include: rock/pop orchestra; American Idol participants; local bands; country band; State Honor Choir from Eddins Elementary; Jazz and/or Big Band; Motown Christmas tunes; and combined Church Choir Gospel piece.
• Planned ticket price for the concert is $35.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Direction 61:3 is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2015 to provide support for young adults aging out of foster care.
• Aged out youth are at high risk of challenges including homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, unplanned pregnancies and substance abuse.
• Direction 61:3 provides support and stability through housing, education and emotional support.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• MCDC’s allocation for Promotional and Community Event grants for FY 19 Cycle II is $76,125.
• Direction 61:3 has not applied for a Promotional and Community Event grant in prior cycles.
