ITEM SUMMARY:
* McKinney National Airport is requesting approval to accept grant funding from the Fiscal Year 2026 Federal Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program to rehabilitate critical tower systems and replace outdated equipment in the air traffic control tower, which was built in 2011.
* Funding will be used for various improvement projects at McKinney National Airport's air traffic control tower, such as replacing the generator transfer switch and communications equipment, rehabilitating the fire panel and mechanical systems, and adding a third controller workstation.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* Established under the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) in 2021, the Federal Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program is a five-year program that has been allocating its authorized allotment of $20 million per year since Fiscal Year 2022 as well as unobligated Airport Infrastructure Grant funds for the modernization of air traffic control towers. In FY2026, $86 million was made available for awards.
* McKinney National Airport was awarded $294,000 from this grant program in Fiscal Year 2025 for an Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System.
