ITEM SUMMARY:

On Friday, November 13, 2009, Guy R. Giersch, Historic Preservation Officer for the City of McKinney, was one of three recipients honored by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) as a Friend of Art Education.

The annual awards program recognizes outstanding members of the Association, including teachers, school administrators, and community leaders for helping to raise the standards of visual arts education, awareness, understanding and appreciation throughout Texas.

As McKinneys Historic Preservation Officer, Mr. Giersch works tirelessly to increase public awareness of the value of our history, culture, art and architecture.

The awards committee consisted of officers of the TAEA, division chairpersons, and at least 12 members-at-large. Honorees were selected based on their resume, personal philosophy statement, and letters of recommendation.
