ITEM SUMMARY:

ISO rates Building Inspections Departments on their strength of building code enforcement to ensure resilient communities.  Ratings are on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best.  McKinney’s 2025 ratings are 2 for commercial construction and 2 for residential constructions.  These ratings improved by two and three points, respectively, since the last assessment in 2019, placing McKinney Building Inspections in the top 2% in Texas.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

ISO rates Building Inspection departments approximately every 4 years using the Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS).

ISO ratings provide advisory information to insurance companies to help establish property insurance rates for the community.

Quality buildings resist forces of nature and may slow the spread of fire, reducing losses and insurance claims.

Departments are rated separately for commercial and residential building code enforcement.

Criteria includes training, employee credentials, adopted codes, certification policies and procedures, and strength of leadership.

McKinney’s ratings in 2019 were 4 for commercial and 5 for residential.  This year’s improvement in each category is a significant accomplishment that speaks to the quality of staff and services
