RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: approve an ordinance

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     On May 3, 2025 a general election was held for registered voters of the city to elect a Mayor and City Council members for District 1, District 3, and At Large #1.

                     The election resulted in majority votes to determine Council members for District 1 and District 3.

                     No candidates for Mayor nor At-Large #1 received a majority vote; therefore, a runoff election for each contest was held on June 7, 2025.

                     Approval of this ordinance will confirm the runoff election results and establish the duly elected Mayor and Council member for At-Large #1 to serve in their respective roles for a term of four (4) years, effective this date until the next election for said roles in May 2029.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     City Charter, Chapter II, Section 4 - Form of Government, states the City Council shall be “composed of the Mayor and six (6) Council Members” and “shall be elected by the qualified voter of the City and the members shall serve four (4) year terms and thereafter until their respective successors shall have been elected.”
