RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: This is an informational update. The City Council will take no action.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

 

•                     This presentation provides information regarding a Recall Petition that was received by the City Secretary’s Office on September 25, 2026.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

 

•                     Under the City Charter, Chapter XVIII, the Mayor or any member of the City Council may be removed from office by recall.

 

•                     On August 12, 2026, a Committee of five (5) registered voters of the city submitted an affidavit for a Petition to Recall Mayor Bill Cox and City Council Members Ernest Lynch (At-Large 1), Geré Feltus (District 3), and Justin Beller (District 1).

 

•                     The City Secretary issued seven hundred fifty (750) Recall Petition pages to the Committee for the collection of signatures.

 

•                     To be valid, the Recall Petition must include at least five thousand eight hundred five (5,805) signatures of individuals who reside within the city and are registered to vote in city elections.

 

•                     If the Recall Petition is valid, it may result in an election for voters to determine whether to recall the officeholders.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:  Depending on the outcomes of the Recall Petition, the city may incur costs related to Special Elections.
