RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approve the proposed ordinance.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Staff is proposing to amend Chapter 38 of the Code of Ordinances to detail allowable voter parking and electioneering locations at the new City Hall, located at 401 E. Virginia Street.

                     In making its recommendation, Staff has analyzed the relevant factors for this year’s election, including perimeter construction, access points into New City Hall property, voter entry doors, internal location of voting booths, directional signage, safety for voters, the prohibited electioneering area (100’ zone), and voting hours.

                     This issue was discussed more fully at the City Council special meeting on March 25, 2025.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The City has contracted with the Collin County Elections office to conduct the May election at the McKinney Municipal Complex (New City Hall).

                     The current Electioneering Ordinance designates areas for the placement of electioneering signs and establishes standards for such placement.
