RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• The City Attorney recommends approval of a resolution appointing Steve Autry as Associate Municipal Court Judge for a two-year term.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• If appointed, Steve Autry would serve for a two-year term as Associate Municipal Court Judge, beginning September 9, 2024
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• State law, the McKinney home rule charter, and Section 66-3 of the City’s Code of Ordinances provide authority to the City Council to appoint those judges presiding over the City’s Municipal Court. Under state law, the term for municipal judges is two (2) years. The City Council on June 4 appointed the previous Associate Municipal Court Judge, Candace Carlsen, to the position of Presiding Municipal Court Judge for a two-year term, beginning June 14. Since that time, the position of Associate Municipal Court Judge has been vacant. The attached resolution will appoint Steve Autry to the position of Associate Municipal Court Judge, effective September 9, 2024.
